DEXA Body Composition · Walnut Creek, CA
Know what you're made of.
A DEXA scan measures fat, lean mass and bone across every region of your body — then an expert sits down and walks you through what it actually means.

Why body composition
Weight is one number. Your body isn't.
The scale moves and you are left guessing at the cause. It cannot separate fat from muscle, it cannot tell you where tissue sits, and it cannot tell you whether a month of effort added lean mass or quietly removed it.
DEXA resolves body composition region by region — arms, legs, trunk — and reports fat, lean tissue and bone separately. It gives you a precise baseline instead of an inference.
How DEXA WorksWhat you learn
Eight measurements, one appointment.
- 01
Total Body Fat %
The share of your total mass that is fat tissue, measured directly rather than estimated from height and weight.
- 02
Regional Body Fat
How fat is distributed across arms, legs and trunk, instead of collapsed into a single whole-body figure.
- 03
Visceral Fat
An estimate of fat located around the organs in the abdominal cavity, reported separately from fat under the skin.
- 04
Lean Mass
Total lean soft tissue — the part of you that training and protein intake are meant to build and defend.
- 05
Regional Lean Mass
Lean tissue broken out by limb and trunk, so you can see where mass is actually being added or lost.
- 06
Left / Right Imbalances
A side-by-side comparison of limbs, which is difficult to judge accurately by eye or by feel.
- 07
Bone Mineral Density
Bone mineral content and density from the same scan, reported alongside your soft-tissue results.
- 08
ALMI
Appendicular Lean Mass Index — limb lean mass scaled to height, a standard way to track muscle over time.

How it works
Measure. Understand. Improve. Re-measure.
- 01
Scan
Complete your DEXA scan.
You lie still and fully clothed on the scanner bed while the arm passes over you. Roughly ten minutes covers setup and the scan itself.
- 02
Understand
Review your results with an expert.
Around twenty minutes with someone who reads these scans regularly. They walk you through your report line by line and answer questions in plain language.
- 03
Act
Identify what is worth focusing on.
You leave knowing which one or two numbers are worth your attention, and what would plausibly move them.
- 04
Measure Again
Return later to see what actually changed.
A second scan turns a single snapshot into a trend, and settles whether the plan is working.
Included with every scan
A report you understand, not a PDF you file away.

- 01What each metric on your report actually measures
- 02Which numbers are worth your attention, and which are noise
- 03Where the clearest opportunities appear in your data
- 04What to watch as you re-scan over time
Your review explains your measurements. It is not a medical diagnosis, and it does not replace care from your physician.
The next layer
Data is the starting point. Coaching is what you do with it.

Training
Programming aimed at the lean-mass and symmetry findings your scan actually surfaced.
Nutrition
Intake guidance anchored to measured composition instead of a calculator estimate.
Behaviour
The routines and adherence work that decide whether any plan survives contact with a real week.
Measurable progress
Re-scan on a sensible interval and judge the plan on what moved, not on how it felt.

Questions
Before you book.
What is a DEXA scan?
DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) uses two low-dose X-ray energies to distinguish fat, lean soft tissue and bone mineral. It is a long-established method for measuring body composition, and it reports results region by region rather than as a single whole-body estimate.
What does it measure?
Total and regional body fat, lean mass by limb and trunk, an estimate of visceral fat, bone mineral content and density, left-to-right differences, and appendicular lean mass index (ALMI).
How long does the scan itself take?
Setup and scanning together take roughly ten minutes of your appointment. [PLACEHOLDER — exact scan duration pending confirmation from the scanner specifications. Do not publish a specific figure until verified.]
How long is the whole appointment?
Thirty minutes. Approximately ten minutes for setup and scanning, and around twenty minutes reviewing your results with an expert.
Is there radiation?
DEXA uses low-dose X-ray technology, so there is a small radiation exposure. [PLACEHOLDER — pending confirmation. Effective dose figures and any comparison must come from the scanner manufacturer specifications and be reviewed by a qualified professional before publication.] If you are pregnant or think you may be, do not book a scan; talk to your physician first.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing free of metal. Zips, underwire, buckles, clasps and heavy hardware can interfere with the scan, so leave them out where you can. You stay fully clothed throughout.
Your baseline starts here.
One appointment gives you a precise measurement and someone to explain it. Everything after that is easier to decide.
